As little fox Rawan wandered hungry through the forest, he found a basket of fresh carrots left beside the path, as though someone had forgotten it there. He looked around and saw no one, and felt a strong temptation to eat it all without anyone knowing.

Rawan sat and thought, «No one can see me now, it would be easy to eat whatever I like». But an inner voice reminded him of what his mother had taught him: «Honesty means doing what’s right even when no one is watching». He hesitated a moment, then decided to search for the basket’s owner instead of eating from it.

Rawan followed small footprints that led him to the home of an elderly rabbit, who had set the basket down for a moment to rest, then forgotten it when a frightening sound made him flee. When the rabbit saw Rawan carrying his basket, he wept with joy and said, «I thought I’d lost a whole week’s food».

The old rabbit tried to reward Rawan with two carrots, but Rawan said, «Helping you was enough for me, I won’t take anything more». Rawan returned to the forest just as hungry as he had come, but feeling a different kind of fullness — the fullness of a heart that knows it did the right thing.
