In a quiet pond lived a little duckling named Nada, the shyest of her siblings. While the other ducklings played and quacked loudly, Nada would simply watch from a distance, afraid someone might laugh if she made a mistake.
One day, the mother duck wandered a little way from the pond searching for food, while her ducklings swam among the reeds. Suddenly a wild cat crept toward Nada’s siblings unnoticed, and Nada was the only one who saw it.
She wanted to scream a warning, but fear silenced her voice as usual. She remembered all the times she had stayed quiet for fear of mistakes, took a deep breath, and shouted as loudly as she could, «Watch out! A cat! Swim away!». Her siblings heard her voice with such strength for the first time, and swam quickly to safety before the cat reached them.
The mother rushed back, and when she learned what had happened, she hugged Nada and said, «Your voice saved your siblings today, little one». From that day, Nada was never shy to speak again, for she understood that her voice, however quiet it seemed, deserved to be heard when it truly mattered.
