Allah sent Prophet Shuayb (peace be upon him) to the people of Madyan. They worshipped things other than Allah, and they had a bad habit in trading: they would shortchange the scale and measure when selling, taking people's rightful due unjustly without feeling any guilt about it.

Shuayb gently and wisely called his people to worship Allah alone, and asked them to give full measure and full weight fairly, not to cheat people of their belongings, and not to spread corruption in the land after Allah had made it good through His blessings.

Shuayb was known for his good character and gentle words. Again and again, he tried to explain to his people that honesty in dealings and trade brings blessing, while cheating and deception take away goodness no matter how much quick profit they seemed to bring.

But many of his people were arrogant and rejected his call. They even threatened him and mocked him and the few believers who followed him, saying they would never abandon the ways of their forefathers no matter what he said.

Shuayb and the believers with him patiently endured this mistreatment and continued calling gently to the truth, until Allah's command came with a punishment upon the arrogant deniers, while Allah saved Shuayb and those who believed with him, by His mercy.

The story of Prophet Shuayb remains a timeless lesson about the importance of honesty in buying and selling, and that giving people their full rights is one of the most beautiful qualities of a truthful believer.
