A new classmate named Joud joined Rahaf’s class, and Joud used a wheelchair to get around. Rahaf noticed that many of the girls kept their distance during break, unsure how to act, leaving Joud alone, watching everyone from afar.

Rahaf wanted to talk to her, but hesitated, thinking, «What if I say something wrong? What if I embarrass her with a question?». She stayed hesitant for days, until one day she saw Joud reaching for a book that had fallen from her bag, just out of reach, and Rahaf rushed over instinctively to hand it to her without a second thought.

Joud smiled and said, «Thank you, you’re the first person to talk to me this week». They sat together talking, and Rahaf discovered that Joud loved drawing just as much as she did, knew plenty of funny jokes, and loved reading about space. Rahaf completely forgot her earlier hesitation, feeling as though she had known Joud for a long time.

From that day on, Rahaf and Joud became inseparable friends, playing, drawing, and sharing their favorite space stories together. Rahaf realized that the wheelchair had never been a reason to hesitate — her own fear had been the only real obstacle, and that the loveliest friendships begin with one simple step from the heart.
