Omar was playing football with his friends in the narrow street in front of the houses, even though his father had warned him about it before. In a moment of excitement, he kicked the ball hard, and it flew far and struck the neighbor Abu Majid’s window, shattering the glass with a loud crash.

All the friends ran off in fear, and Omar hid behind a parked car, his heart pounding. All that evening, he kept thinking, «What if Abu Majid finds out it was me? What if my father gets angry?». Omar couldn’t sleep that night under the weight of his guilt.

In the morning, Omar decided to tell his father everything despite his fear. His father listened calmly, then said, «I’m proud that you told me, Omar. Courage isn’t only avoiding mistakes, it’s also admitting them». They went together to Abu Majid’s house, and Omar apologized in a trembling voice, offering to pay from his allowance to fix the window.

Abu Majid smiled and said, «Your sincere apology matters to me far more than the cost of any window, Omar». Omar felt a great sense of relief after telling the truth, and realized that the heavy secret he had carried for one whole night was far heavier than the discomfort of admitting his mistake.
