Muhammad ibn Yazid al-Rab'i al-Qazwini, known as Ibn Majah, was born in Qazwin in 824 CE and traveled widely in search of hadith across Iraq, the Hijaz, Syria, and Egypt, studying under numerous scholars and amassing extensive knowledge.
He compiled his 'Sunan', carefully organizing hadiths on legal rulings by chapter, though the collection includes some weaker traditions later criticized by scholars.
Legacy
Despite notes on parts of its content, 'Sunan Ibn Majah' came to be regarded by the majority of hadith scholars as the sixth of the canonical collections, and it remains a reference studied in circles of learning to this day.
