The sun is a huge source of energy, sending us light and heat every single day for free. Scientists can now capture part of this energy and turn it into electricity we use at home — this is called «solar energy».

To do this, «solar panels» are made — flat, dark panels placed on rooftops or in open areas that get sunlight all day. When sunlight hits these panels, it turns into electricity that can power lightbulbs or appliances.

Solar energy is clean because it does not release smoke that pollutes the air, and it never runs out as long as the sun keeps shining. That makes it one of the best ways to protect our planet Earth from pollution.
