How do we know a rose is beautiful, a lemon is sour, or music is lovely? We discover the world around us through five amazing senses that help us understand everything around us.

The Five Senses and Their Organs

Sight happens through the eyes, letting us see colors, shapes, and movement around us. Hearing happens through the ears, helping us hear sounds like people talking, birds chirping, or music playing. Smell happens through the nose, letting us tell different scents apart, like flowers or food.

Taste happens through the tongue, which has tiny taste buds that detect sweet, salty, sour, and bitter flavors. Touch happens through the skin all over the body, letting us feel heat, cold, softness, and roughness.

These senses work together to give us a full picture of the world around us. When we eat an apple, for example, our eyes tell us its color, our nose its smell, our tongue its taste, our skin its texture, and our ears the sound of the crunch. Our senses are a wonderful gift we should protect, like shielding our eyes from bright light and our ears from very loud sounds.
