Simile is a beautiful way of speaking we use when we want to highlight a quality in something by comparing it to something else that shares that quality. A simple simile has four parts: the thing being compared, the thing compared to, the comparison word, and the shared quality.
Example: “The boy is brave as a lion.” Here “the boy” is compared, “the lion” is what it's compared to, “as” is the comparison word, and “bravery” is the shared quality. Other comparison words include “like” and “as if”: “Her face is like the moon in beauty,” or “The snow is as if it were white cotton.”
Poets and writers use simile often to make their descriptions more vivid and closer to our imagination.
