There once was a hare who always boasted about his speed, and he loved to mock a slow tortoise whenever he met her in the forest. One day, the tortoise calmly challenged him, saying, Let us race and see who reaches the finish line first.
The hare laughed at the challenge but agreed. All the forest animals gathered to mark the start and finish lines, and the race began.
The hare dashed off at great speed and quickly left the tortoise far behind. Feeling very sure of himself, he said, I have plenty of time to spare, I will rest a little under this tree, and he lay down and fell asleep.
Meanwhile, the tortoise kept walking, slowly and steadily, one step after another, never stopping and never giving up, even though she was far behind.
When the hare suddenly woke up, he ran as fast as he could toward the finish line, but he found that the tortoise had already arrived, thanks to her patience and determination. That day the hare learned that pride and carelessness can lose a race, no matter how fast you are.
The Lesson: Slow and steady determination beats speed mixed with pride.
