On a hot day, a hungry fox wandered through the forest looking for food. He spotted a big, delicious bunch of grapes hanging from a tall vine.
His eyes lit up with joy, and he said to himself, "What wonderful grapes! I'll eat them now and be full." He jumped, trying to reach them, but he couldn't.
The fox tried again, leaping as high as he could with all his strength, but the grapes hung too high above him, and he fell back to the ground empty-handed.
He did not give up easily. He tried jumping many more times, and each time he failed and grew more and more tired.
Finally, exhausted, the fox decided to stop trying. He walked away from the vine, telling himself, "Those grapes were probably sour anyway, not worth all this trouble."
And so the fox went on his way, pretending he never wanted what he could not have, instead of simply admitting that he had failed.
The Lesson: It is easy to belittle what we cannot have instead of admitting we failed.
