While Noor was playing with her friend Omar on the roof of the building where their families lived, they found a rusty door in the corner they had never noticed before. They pushed it open carefully, revealing another part of the roof filled with empty pots, dry soil, and wilted plants — once a lovely garden left behind by former neighbors years ago.
Noor loved the idea instantly and suggested to Omar that they bring the garden back to life, so it could become a beautiful spot everyone in the building could enjoy. But Omar hesitated — the door was usually locked, the soil needed a lot of work, and they had no tools or seeds.
Instead of giving up, they decided to ask for help. They spoke to the building manager, Miss Huda, who loved their idea and officially opened the door, asking the residents to help. One neighbor brought old gardening tools, and Noor's grandmother brought mint, fava bean, and tomato seeds from her favorite market.
Every afternoon after homework, Noor and Omar worked: cleaning pots, replacing soil, carefully planting seeds, and watering the plants regularly. One day some plants wilted from too much sun, so they looked it up in a gardening book and discovered the plants needed more shade, then carefully moved them.
After weeks of patience and work, the plants began growing green and lush, and the scent of mint filled the rooftop. The residents came to see the beautiful change and thanked Noor and Omar for their idea and dedication, suggesting a small monthly family day on the roof.
On opening day, everyone sat among the green plants sipping mint tea the two children had grown with their own hands, and Noor and Omar felt immense pride. They learned that small dreams can grow big when we work hard and ask for help when needed, instead of giving up at the first obstacle.
The Lesson: Hard work and patience, along with asking for help when needed, turn small dreams into real achievements.
