Khalid’s mother sent him to buy some bread and milk from the nearby grocery, giving him the exact money counted out. Khalid bought what his mother had asked for, and when he paid, the grocer was busy with another customer and, without noticing, gave Khalid more change than he was owed.

On his way home, Khalid counted the money out of curiosity and found an extra dinar beyond what was correct. He paused for a moment and thought, «If I keep it, no one will notice, and I could buy the candy I love». He looked around, smiling briefly at the thought of candy, but stopped suddenly, remembering his father’s advice: «Money that isn’t yours brings no blessing».

Khalid turned back to the grocery, tired as he was from walking, and stood before the shopkeeper, saying, «Uncle, you gave me extra change by mistake, this dinar belongs to you». The grocer was surprised and smiled with gratitude, saying, «Well done, Khalid, you’re truly honest. This dinar is my gift to you for your honesty».

Khalid returned home happy, not because of the dinar the grocer had gifted him, but because of the wonderful feeling he had about himself. He told his mother what had happened, and she hugged him, saying, «I’m proud of you, Khalid, for honesty is worth more than any dinar in the world».
