Knowing numbers and their order doesn’t necessarily mean understanding which is bigger or smaller when comparing two random numbers, and this activity targets that skill specifically. Write numbers 1 to 10 on separate cards.
- Draw two random cards and place them side by side in front of your child.
- Ask: which number is bigger? How do you know?
- Use physical objects to help if they hesitate: 7 buttons is more than 4 buttons.
- Turn it into a fast-paced game: whoever answers quickest and correctly earns a point.
This activity builds the concept of a number’s «relative value», an important foundation for later understanding addition, subtraction, and ordering with greater confidence.
