Print a sheet with a few large, clear shapes: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, and a star if possible. Ask your child to name each shape before coloring it, then let them pick a color for each one however they like.
To add a challenge for older children (5-6 years), ask them to color every four-sided shape blue and every round shape red — this links coloring to a visual sorting skill.
The activity strengthens pencil grip, introduces basic geometric concepts in a playful, indirect way, and lays groundwork for recognizing shapes later in math and reading.
