Unlike familiar farm animals, forest animals feel more mysterious since children rarely see them up close. Print drawings of an orange fox with a bushy tail, a small squirrel holding an acorn, an owl with big eyes, and a deer with antlers.
- Ask your child which of these animals is active at night and which during the day.
- Talk about each animal’s home: the fox’s den, the owl’s nest, the squirrel’s burrow.
- Ask them to pick which animal they’d want as a friend in a made-up story.
- After coloring, invent a short story together bringing all these animals into one forest.
This activity opens a window onto the wildlife that lives near us but is often hidden from view, and builds storytelling imagination through animal characters.
