Before cards or tools, a child’s own fingers are always the best available way to learn numbers 1 to 10. Sit with your child, raise one finger and say «one», then two fingers and say «two», and so on.

  • Ask your child to copy you with their own hand each time.
  • Once they’ve mastered a few numbers, ask: show me the number 3 with your fingers.
  • Turn it into a quick game: suddenly hold up a number of fingers and ask them to name it fast.
  • Gradually use both hands to reach numbers up to 10.

This activity needs no tools and can be played anywhere, anytime — while waiting in line, for example — and builds a direct, embodied link between number and quantity using the child’s own body.
