This activity combines counting with careful visual observation. Choose or draw a picture containing several similar scattered items, like 5 cats in different poses, 7 colorful balloons, or 4 butterflies.
- Show the picture to your child and ask them to look it over carefully first, without counting.
- Then have them count the requested items, pointing to each one as they go.
- If they make a mistake, help by asking: did you already point to this one?
- Ask them to write the final number next to the question, or say it out loud.
