When the persecution against Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his companions in Mecca grew too severe, God permitted him to migrate to Madinah. He set out at night with his dear friend Abu Bakr, while his own house was surrounded by those seeking to harm him — yet God protected him so completely that they did not see him pass right by them.

Instead of taking the usual road toward Madinah, the Prophet ﷺ and his companion headed south to the cave of Thawr, hiding there for three days until the search for them settled down. When their pursuers reached the very entrance of the cave, Abu Bakr feared greatly for the Prophet's safety, but the Prophet ﷺ reassured him with remarkable calm: «Do not grieve, God is with us.»

The searchers never looked inside, for a spider had spun its web across the entrance and a dove had built her nest there, making the cave appear untouched for ages, so they turned back. After three days, the Prophet ﷺ and his companion continued their journey to Madinah, where the people welcomed them with tremendous joy, beginning a new chapter in Islamic history.
