Grandfather Mubarak had been a skilled pearl diver since his youth, and that summer, he allowed his grandson Fahad to join him for a short pearl diving trip on his sailing boat. Fahad was thrilled to see how his grandfather worked beneath the water.

Before diving, grandfather taught Fahad how to tie the rope firmly around his waist, saying, “The sea, Fahad, gives with patience, not haste. We must respect its depth and its calm.” Fahad listened closely, watching the clear blue water.

Grandfather dove slowly and steadily, while Fahad stayed in the boat watching the rising air bubbles, patiently counting the seconds as his grandfather had taught him. After a minute, grandfather emerged from the water holding a large, gleaming shell.

Together they opened the shell on the boat's deck and found a small white pearl gleaming in the sunlight. Grandfather smiled and said, “This is the first pearl you've seen with your own eyes, Fahad — keep it to always remember this day.” Fahad returned to shore proud and grateful for that wonderful experience.
