Choose a puzzle with a small piece count suited to your child's age (4-6 large pieces for younger children, up to 24 pieces for older ones). Show them the box picture first so they know the final image, then have them start with the straight-edged pieces to build the outer frame if the puzzle is fairly large.
Encourage them to try pieces themselves rather than telling them exactly where each one goes, guiding instead with simple questions like “Where do you think this blue piece goes?” Starting with a puzzle showing something familiar — a pet or a favorite cartoon character — boosts motivation.
This activity builds logical thinking, problem-solving, and hand-eye coordination, and develops patience and the ability to finish a task — a valuable skill that carries over to other areas of learning.
