Draw several types of lines on a sheet with a light pencil: a horizontal straight line, a vertical line, a zigzag, and a wavy line, leaving space between them. Ask your child to trace each line with a colored pen as accurately as they can.

Start with the easier straight lines, then gradually move to the harder zigzags and waves. You can also draw a simple «path» connecting two points —like linking a rabbit to a carrot— to make the activity more engaging.

Don't expect full accuracy at first; the goal is to exercise the small hand muscles in controlling the pencil and its direction, an essential pre-writing exercise that precedes learning to write letters in a steady hand.
