Long ago in a Japanese village lived an old man and an old woman who had no children of their own. One day, while the old woman was washing clothes by the river, she saw a giant peach floating toward her on the water. Delighted, she carried it home to share with her husband.

But as they were about to cut it open, the peach suddenly split apart on its own, and out popped a crying baby boy! The elderly couple were overjoyed at this wondrous gift, and raised him with great love, naming him Momotaro — «Peach Boy». He grew up strong, brave, and loved by everyone.

When Momotaro became a young man, he heard that a distant island called Onigashima was home to fearsome ogres who raided nearby villages and terrorized the people. He decided to travel there to fight the ogres and rescue the villagers, and his grandmother prepared him a supply of delicious millet dumplings to take on his journey.

Along the way, Momotaro met a hungry dog and gave him a dumpling, and the dog joined him. Then he met a monkey and a pheasant, and gave each of them a dumpling too, and they loyally joined him as well. The four companions travelled on together, united, toward the island.

Momotaro and his friends reached the ogres' island, and through their courage and teamwork, they defeated the wicked ogres and forced them to surrender, recovering all the treasure the ogres had stolen from the villages. Momotaro returned home a beloved hero, bringing the treasure back to his village, and lived happily ever after with his elderly parents and his faithful friends.
