Gather several wooden clothespins (5-10) and a sturdy plate or round plastic dish. Have your child squeeze the pin open with their thumb and index finger, then clip it onto the edge of the plate.

Once all the pins are clipped on, have them remove each one and put it back in the box. You can color the pins or plates differently and ask your child to clip each pin onto the edge matching its color, adding a color-sorting element to the activity.

This exercise strengthens the “pincer grip” (thumb and index finger) — a foundational movement your child will later use for holding a pencil, doing up buttons, and tying laces — while also building overall hand strength.
